Zébrange Chilli Seeds

Zébrange Chilli Seeds. The Zébrange (C. Baccatum) was created by Laurent Minet from the Centre Technique Horticole in Gembloux, Belgium. The Zébrange is currently one of the most attractive and tasty chillies out there in our humble opinion. It ticks all the right boxes. This cultivar was created by crossing Aji Fantasy with Christmas Belle cultivars. The pods lean towards Aji Fantasy. These pods start off a light green and ripen to a beautiful variegated orange colour with red (tiger) stripes. Absolutely stunning!

Easy germinators in our experience. They are a no fuss-get-on-and-grow kind of chilli. Plants are similar to Aji Fantasy / Christmas Belle with a lighter wispier structure than your regular capsicum cultivars. These plants are a little less dense foliage wise in comparison. But, good producers. Producing ample pods that are actually very decent in size. Pods develop into a basic belle shape. We would say more like Aji Fantasy, less pronounced wings on these pods than Christmas Belle. Foliage on these plants is solid green (no variegation on the foliage). And, did we mention the oh-so-sexy variegation on the pods?

Pods are large and crisp. Much of the heat is located at the centre of the pods. Heat wise, these pods are mild, coming in at around 8,000 SHU (give or take). What is actually the most pronounced experience is the flavour. These are equally as delicious as they are beautiful on the eye. Lovely up front sweetness. They have a tropical fruity flavour. Not your typical Aji/Baccatum flavour here. No perfume/floral flavours. Peachy comes to mind. All we can say, is this has to be one of our new favourites.

We have noted that the variegation on the Zébrange is variable and can be more or less pronounced. It can also present as solid areas of colour (as opposed to stripes), where pods are split 50/50 orange/red. These variations have been noted by community growers and are a natural variation of this cultivar. This apparently is down to climate (temperature) and growing conditions.

Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers  - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
