Yucatan White Lightning (Secluded) Chilli Seeds
Yucatan White Lightning Secluded Chilli Seeds. Peruvian White Lightning... Habanero White Jelly Bean... Yucatan White Habanero. One chilli, many countries, different names. There may seemingly be some indecisiveness around the name and origins of this chilli, but one thing is certain - this chilli is stunning. This is a small C. Chinense that seems to be native to Southern Mexico (Yucatan) and Peru. Plants grow very compact/bushy and have loads of small pods that range from bullet shaped to ovaloid and is often described as jelly beans. Pods turn from light green to off white once fully ripe. Which in itself is quite unusual as most chillies turn red when fully ripe. For it's size this variety is a huge producer. These pods may be small but are little packets of dynamite that command respect with heat weighing in at around 250,000 - 350,000 SHU. Pods are clean, crisp and fruity with lots of citrus. This is a very sought after chilli, but can be quite tricky to germinate. But, an early start to the season will see this plant produce early in the season and vigorously. This variety is very fussy when it comes to colder temperatures in our experience. As much as this plant is the first to produce, it will be one of the first plants to show signs of shutting down as night time temps dip below the 14ºC mark. Often leaves will yellow and start to drop in February/March already as night time temps start to drop. This variety is also more susceptible to fungal infections in our experience. But let this not deter you, growing this variety way way way outweighs its fussy nature. It's stunning in it's prime. One of the most unusual and beautiful plants to grow that has great culinary appeal. Given its unique colour, this chilli is perfect for white sauces either fresh or dried and ground into a powder. This variety is very suitable for growing in containers and would make a great edging to flower beds. If you are up for something a little more challenging, this variety is well worth the effort.

* The container sizes above are sugested sizes that are reasonable and accessible for most growers (taking price, space, ecological/environmental impact into consideration). Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
