Turks Cap Chilli Seeds

Turks Cap Chilli Seeds. The Turks Cap (C. Chinense) is of unknown origin. Although we do believe this type of pepper would more than likely originate from the Caribbean. A great grower that develops into a good size plant that bears beautiful pods generously. As the name suggests, the pods are shaped like Turkish “Börk” caps worn around the time of the Ottoman Empire. We did find some variance throughout the season on the shape of the pods. Sometimes pods were more elongated and sometimes a little squatter, but they all conformed to the basic Turkish Cap shape. Pods had a very nice lumpy, bumpy orange peel texture on the outside, which did elude to them being very hot. Surprisingly these pods are not terribly hot – rolling in at a comfortable 60,000 – 80,000 SHU. Pods start off a beautiful light green and change through orange to deep red when fully ripe. These are thick fleshed pods that do lend themselves very well to making sauce and can be used fresh in salsas. This is a great option for all chilliheads who are looking for a milder alternative to Habanero heat. These pods are sweet and all round delicious with a fruity, musky flavour profile. A lesser known cultivar, but well worth growing!

Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers  - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
