Tepiquin Chilli (Secluded) Seeds
Tepiquin Chilli Seeds. The Tepiquin (C. Annuum) is a very special cultivar indeed. This cultivar was created by master grower Judy from Pepper Lover and is a cross between Chiltepin aka Tepin (C. Annuum) X Pequin (C. Annuum). We have been fortunate enough to get these seeds from Judy’s remaining collection a few years back.
We have only grown this cultivar one year, so we can not vouch for stability. As such, we have categorized this cultivar as hybrid. This having been said, most original seeds received from Judy have always been top quality. Given the plants slow growth traits, it is quite possible that this cultivar is stable.
A stunning cultivar. Good germination. Growth in our experience is slow and this cultivar will benefit from a long grow season. A very delicate, dainty plant in our experience. Very light in structure. A small to potentially medium sized plant (30-50cm). Small Annuum flowers that set into very small roundish/oval pods. These pods are truly tiny (3-4mm). But such a unique and beautiful plant to grow.
Pods are ideal for drying, though it would take several bushes or a very large bush to make sufficient. We grew our plant in a 15 litre pot, so growing these in soil, or a larger container, may yield better, bigger results. Pods start off green with a black blush in some instances. Pods do take a long time to ripen in our experience and will eventually turn a orange to red in colour when ripe. Ripe pods are soft to the touch and separate easily from the calyx. This is very similar to C. Frutescens.
Pods are thin skinned and have large seeds given their tiny size. Our pods yielded 3-4 seeds per pod, so very few seeds! Each packet sold equates to around 4 pods. Pods are ideal for drying and will make exceptional powder or flakes. The aroma and flavour of these tiny pods is very fruity with a slight nuttiness in the flavour. It actually reminded us of some of the wild cultivars that have a certain nuttiness about them. The heat (difficult to estimate as pods are so small) we would estimate around 60,000-80,000 SHU. Possibly higher. It is deceptive as pods are so small. But given their tiny size, they certainly give a wonderful lengthy full mouth peppery burn. Absolutely delightful. Super choice for Hot Sauces.
This plant’s pods are tiny and do not yield many seeds. So expect availability to be rare. If you see these – grab them. This is a very special cultivar indeed!

* The container sizes above are sugested sizes that are reasonable and accessible for most growers (taking price, space, ecological/environmental impact into consideration). Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
