Scarlet Lantern Peru
Scarlet Lantern Peru chilli seeds. The Scarlet Lantern Peru (C Chinense) is very unusual indeed. This variety is from South America. Germination and growth is good and consistent. Our plant reached a height of around 40 - 50cm and was laiden with lots of fruit. Pods are a uneven pendant shape, that are very unusual and unique. Pods start off off white and start getting a purple blush - as most white chilli varieties do. At this stage, the plant is very striking and beautiful. It will take some time for pods to change colour, but when they do, pods change from off white/purple to orange and finally red when fully ripe. When cut open, pods have a very sweet aroma that is very like Red Habanero. Flavour wise, pods are super sweet and very fruity with Habanero flavour, but heat is considerably lower. A perfect heat, making these chillies much more manageable than Habaneros (for those who find Habaneros too hot). This chilli has huge ornamental and culinary appeal - so a fantastic all rounder in our books. Pods can be made into sauce or dried for chilli powder or chopped up and use raw in salsa. A definite winner in our books!

* The container sizes above are sugested sizes that are reasonable and accessible for most growers (taking price, space, ecological/environmental impact into consideration). Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
