Rocoto Red

Rocoto Red chilli seeds. What a plant! We definitely have a soft spot for this chilli. Superb chillies these are. Big, plump pods. These chillies take for ever to change colour, but the wait is well worth it. Pods are crunchy, very juicy and simply delicious. Ideal for salsas and sauces, these pods are deceptively hot. But a superb heat. A great heat. Also a very unusual plant. Part of the Pubescens genus, these plants are covered in hairs and pods have black seeds. Rocoto seeds can be a little more temperamental to get out of the starting blocks as they have very thick and hard seed coats. So our advice is to presoak the seeds before germination! Once Rocotos get going, they are a pleasure. These plants prefer the cooler temperatures, so not well suited to our peak summer weather and possibly a plant that would prefer less sunshine in our peak summer times. But a great plant that will enjoy the cooler spring and autumn temperatures. Expect your harvest late autumn.

Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers  - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
