Rocoto Calama Red Chilli Seeds
Rocoto Calama Chilli Seeds. A truly magnificent cultivar of Rocoto (C. Pubescens) discovered at a market in Calama, El Loa Province, Chile. An unlikely location as this is in the Atacama Desert. But, most likely grown along the more lush Loa River. Like most Rocotos, germination can be a little temperamental. once out of the germination blocks, this is a happy go lucky grower. Plant has strong growth with a minimum size of around 100cm in height and a sprawling growth of at least 100cm. We grow our plants in 20 litre bags, so planting these in the ground may well see plants exceed and grow into giant plants. This is a super producer. Flush after flush of multiple purple Rocoto flowers gives yield to and abundance of large, apple shaped Rocotos that average 50g, but can easily attain over 100g per pod if growing conditions are optimal. Again growing in the ground may see much larger pods as well. Truly magnificent pods that ripen to a bright red colour. Pods are firm, thick fleshed and crisp with a tendency to squirt juice as you bight into a pod. Flavour wise these pods are delicious. They have a sweet, fruity, peppery aroma. The flavour is very fruity with an unmistakably Rocoto mineraliness. One of the nicest Rocotos we have grown for a while. Superb for making sauces or used for salsas.

* The container sizes above are sugested sizes that are reasonable and accessible for most growers (taking price, space, ecological/environmental impact into consideration). Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
