Pasilla Mixe Chilli Seeds
Pasilla Mixe Chilli Seeds. This is a very special and rare heirloom cultivar from the Oaxaca region of Mexico. The Pasilla Mixe (C. Annuum) come from the Sierra Norte region of Oaxaca. A region that is difficult to access and as such this cultivar has grow in relative isolation for many generations. The Mixe are an indigenous people stooped in tradition and these seeds are rare and hard to come by indeed.
Traditionally these Chiles are smoked giving them a very unique and deep, complex flavour.
Plants will grow to a good 50-60cm in height. Pods start of dark green/ almost black in colour and will ripen (slowly) through green to a bright red when fully ripe. The pods are a good 8-15cm in size and thick fleshed.
The aroma on these pods is fruity. They can be eaten green and have a very earthy herbaceous flavour when green. When fully ripe, these pods have a very fruity minerally flavour. When dried, these pods take on a deep dark red colour. We have not tried these smoked, but we understand that this is the ultimate experience and lends these pods to many traditional mexican dishes.

* The container sizes above are sugested sizes that are reasonable and accessible for most growers (taking price, space, ecological/environmental impact into consideration). Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
