Mini Rocoto Orange
Mini Rocoto Orange chilli seeds. We love Rocotos and we have a particular soft spot for this Mini variety. In fact, we just can't stop raving about them! The Rocotos belong to the C. Pubescens family of plants. Good germination followed by consistent growth. This is a small to medium plant that would be well suited to container growing - pot plants and balconies also. The plant is not bushy, but rather structured in its appearance with a nice canopy. As is characteristic of this family of plants, leaves, stem and branches are covered in tiny hairs (furry). Beautiful white and purple coloured flowers that develop into small irregular ovaloid pods that change from dark green to a beautiful golden orange colour once fully ripe. Pods are - as the name suggests - smaller than the regular Rocotos with pods more inline with the size of large grapes. Cut the pods open and in stark contrast to the beautiful golden flesh is a generous cluster of jet black seeds - another characteristic of this family of chilli plants. But probably one of the most sensational aspects of this chilli is what it brings to the palette. It is difficult to describe biting into these chillies. The texture of these chillies is absolutely divine. The skin and flesh are like butter and yet crunch and juicy. A super thin and soft skin just melts in the mouth. The flesh is soft and seems like it is filled with little pockets of crunch that pop as you chew, unleashing bursts of juicy flavour. The aroma of these chillies is delightful - fruity and minerally. The flavour is fruity, citrus with mineral undertones. Heat is just perfect - this chilli is not about heat - probably 40,000 - 60,000 SHU if that. The burn is delightfully peppery with a nice well rounded burn that lingers a good 8 minutes or so. This chilli and its colour would lend itself well to being used raw. Undoubtedly great for making a chilli sauce, it would be in our minds a shame to cook these beautiful chillies with their amazing fresh texture. A fresh salsa made from these should be mind blowingly awesome. This chilli is an absolute gem in our books!

* The container sizes above are sugested sizes that are reasonable and accessible for most growers (taking price, space, ecological/environmental impact into consideration). Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
