Madre De Rios

Madre de Rios Chilli Seeds. The Madre de Rios (C. Frutescens) literally translated means "Mother of Rios". This variety originates from the Amazon jungle. What makes this chilli unusual are its round/ovaloid pheno type. This variety germinates well and grows cosnsistently into a nice small compact plant. This plant has a lovely lush green appearance with a slight glossiness to the leaves. Pods have long stems and grow vacing heaven with one stem per juncture. Pods are round/ovaloid in appearance, growing to the size of large pea. This variety does seem to enjoy cooler weather and does takle a long season to produce and ripen - so early germination is recommended! Pods ripen from a green to brilliant red when fully ripened. Pods are quite seedy and soft when ripe. Heat on these chillies is around 125,000 - 150,000 SHU - possibly higher. They are hot and the burn from these is very peppery. Flavour and aroma is fruity and peppery with a slight hint of dried tomato. The burn is very much front of mouth and has a very pleasant lingering effect. This variety is unusual and rare. Also suitable for growing in pots. In the kitchen, these can be used in stews to add immediate heat or the pods can be dried to produce an amazing chilli powder.

You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
