Lotha Bih
Lotha Bih Chilli Seeds. The Lotha Bih (C. Frutescens), sometimes spelled Lota Bih is a really rare collectors chilli that is said to originate from Assam. This variety is claimed to be the Frutescens genetic make up of the Bhut/Bih Jolokia which is an interspecific hybrid between C. Chinense & C. Frutescens. The plant is a medium sized plant in our experience (ours grew in a 10 litre pot) - but is said to grow much larger. A great producer of loads of Birdseye like pods that are longer in appearance. The calyx on these is not typically frutescens, but this variety is said to have a characteristic acute angled stalk to the calyx, which our pods did have. Heat wise, these pods are hot and should be approached with a little respect. Lovely fruity flavour up front, followed by a very respectible peppery burn. We noticed that our plant was suited to wet conditions, loving more of a drink than other plants. Stressed plants tend to have drier pods in our experience. Lotha Bih are eaten red and green in Assam, where they are added to dishes to add instant heat.
