Goat's Weed

Goat's Weed (Secluded) Chilli Seeds. The Goat's Weed (C. Annuum) is a very unusual and sought after chilli variety among chilliheads. We have it that this variety comes from Venezuela, South America. There is nothing to really substanciate why it is called a Goat's Weed - we can only imagine that this variety gets grazed on by goats. But again, this is not substanciated. What makes this chilli so sought after is its looks for sure. This plant has the characteristic of having fine hairs all over the leaves and branches, which gives this plant a silvery appearance. From a distance, this plant looks like it is covered in frost. Which is very striking and unusual. We associate hairs on chilli plants mostly with Capsicum Pubescens, but this is a Capsicum Annuum and this hairy attribute is quite unusual for Annuum varieties. This having been said, a good grower that does benefit from a long grow season - so plant these early! Plant grows to a height of around 100cm - possibly higher. Beautiful white annuum style flowers on these plants. Producing upward facing pods that start out green, then go black and finally a lovely deep red colour. The pods of the Goat's Weed are large, measuring some 6-7cm in length and about 1cm in width. The pheno type of these pods is typically annuum. Pods have a lovely herbacious / peppery / citrus aroma about them. Flavour wise, the herbacious comes through quite strong. Generally, these pods have a very clean taste. The heat is up there with the hottest annuums around. A very intense, building burn to these. A very peppery burn that is well rounded. While these pods do not impart a particularly unusual or desirable flavour, the heat and burn from these chillies does make this variety great for general purpose cooking. Dishes that require some instant heat, spicy asian dishes that require that intense heat would benefit. These pods would also be great for drying and their lovely red colour would produce an amazing dark red powder. But the striking frosted appearance of these plants is without a doubt the most unique attribute of this variety.
