Garden Bird Pepper
Garden Bird Pepper Chilli Seeds. The Garden Bird Pepper (C. Frutescens) is a chilli that originates from the USA. A good, robust grower that produces lots of flowers that are off white and C. Frutescens. The pods ripen from a dark green through brown to red. Pods are slightly more elongated than the African Birdseye (C. Frutescens) and seem somewhat more irregugal on the outside. The typical frutescens "anvil" structure of the calyx is also less pronounced and more Annuum in its appearance bringing about a suspicion that there may be some interspecific action going on here (C. Annuum in this variety). On ripening, pods do soften and easily seperate from the calyx as is often the case with C. Frutescens. Ripe pods are buttery and super for hot sauce fermentation. These pods have a great peppery aroma and flavour. Immediate up front heat and a very strong, long burn. We noted that these pods seem to also convey a slight Annuum characteristic in their flavour, less of the characteristic fruitiness associated with C. Frutescens. Though no documentation supports that this particular variant has C. Annuum in it, we do suspect that this may be the case - hence we have listed this variety in our hybrid section. All in all, a good grower and very well suited to our climate, growing and producing well into late autumn. A great addition to any chilli grow and very versatile for culinary applications. Pods can be used fresh, dried, fermented or made into sauces... it doesn't get better than that :)

* The container sizes above are sugested sizes that are reasonable and accessible for most growers (taking price, space, ecological/environmental impact into consideration). Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
