Erotico Chilli Seeds

Erotico Chilli Seeds. The Erotico (C. Baccatum) is also called Erotica by many of the English speaking growers out there. This absolutely stunning cultivar was created by Maestro Massimo Biagi. Not much information exists on the exact cross in this cultivar, but it is without a doubt one of the most unusual and sexiest looking chillies available.

Good growers that produce very well. Pods ripen from a light green to brilliant orange late season. Pods range in size from 6 – 8cm in length. Pods are an irregular undulating pendant shape with a very shiny and smooth exterior skin. The pods also show a very distinct tail tucked into the folds of the apex of these pods, which is always a bonus among growers. As already mentioned, the pod shapes evoke a very sensual, erotic shape – hence the name. These pods like most Baccatums, will benefit with an early season start. Pods can take their time to fully ripen. This cultivar does not show signs of slowing down in our autumn weather, but instead can show signs of re-invigoration with cooler temps in the mornings.

The aroma that greets the senses is sweet, tropical fruit (star fruit), carrot possibly a hint of Persimmon. A very delicate aroma.

Pods are thin skinned and crisp if picked just when ripe. The placenta in these chillies does not extend the full length of the pod, so heat is definitely focused towards the stalk side of the pod. We experienced a peppery back of throat burn that radiates forward towards the front of the mouth and tip of the tongue. The burn lingers nicely for a good 10 minutes before dissipating.

Flavour wise, what struck us first was the sweetness. The mouth is instantly greeted with sweetness, like a sweet carrot. Followed by a very subtle hint of mango in our experience. Flavour wise these pods are very similar to Aji Amarillo.

We were surprised by the heat on these chillies. By all accounts we were led to believe that these would be around the 5,000 SHU mark. But, in our experience these were higher, probably up to 8,000/10,000 SHU. But again, this can be down to growing conditions. So an estimated 5,000 – 10,000 SHU on this cultivar. Which places this cultivar firmly on the top of our mild range. For those growers with milder palates, we would recommend removing the stalk side of these chillies as the tips are not as hot.

The colour is definitely key here. These orange gems are great to add a sparkle to any dish. Yes, you can add them to a cooked dish, but it seems almost a shame, given the amazing colour on these pods. These would be served well fresh, in a Ceviche as a perfect alternative to Aji Amarillo (should you not have). Chopped up in salsa. Made into a super orange powder.

This chilli is going to be popular among growers just for the looks alone. This has to be one of the most unusual and sexy pods available. But this is not just a pretty chilli, it is also a super producer and very useful for cooking. So that makes this a truly awesome all round chilli to grow. It certainly gets our thumbs up!
