Ecuadorian Rocoto for Hell

Ecuadorian Rocoto for Hell Chilli Seeds. A very nice cultivar of Rocoto (C. Pubescens) from Ecuador. The name sounds rather intimidating, but it is not quite as bad as the name suggests. Good growers, though Rocoto seeds can be a little more temperamental to get out of the starting blocks as they have very thick and hard seed coats. So our advice is to presoak the seeds before germination! Once Rocotos get going, they are a pleasure. This variety grows well into a decent medium to large bush. Easily 1m x 1m. As with most Rocotos, beautiful purple flowers are a given. A good producer this variety. Pods are roughly the size of small eggs and ripen from green through to a deep rich red colour. Flavourwise these pods are delicious, although as the name eludes these are on the up side of hot for Rocotos. Superb for making sauces or used for salsas. This cultivar also seems to be more tollerant of cooler weather and does appear to make it through highveld winters with a little coddling.

Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers  - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
