Dedo de Moça

Dedo de Moça Chilli Seeds. The Dedo de Moça (C. Baccatum) originates from Brazil. Litterally translated it is called “Lady Fingers” in english. Apparently this cultivar is very popular in Brazil cuisie.

This is a really stunning cultivar that is an easy germinator and grower. A classic well tempramented Baccatum. Good for first time growers to try. Plants are suitable for soil as well as container growing. Our plant was grown in a 20 litre pot and easily attained a height of 60cm. Grown in soil or in a larger container this cultivar does have the genetic traits to grow very big. This cultivar has bushy growth with very wispy branches and is a very generous producer decent sized pods.

Pods ripen from a grass green through orange to red when fully ripe. Beautiful elongated pendant shaped pods that taper both ends and have a very distinct point at the blossom end. These pods reminded us a lot of Aji Santa Cruz, though much slimmer. Once ripe, pods are crisp and juicy. Aroma is crisp, freshness, sweet, peppery. Heat is around 10,000 SHU with a really pleasant lengthy burn. Flavour wise, these pods are sweet up front, fruity with a lingering pepperiness.

Great when used fresh to add a splash of colour to food, especially salsas, ceviche & salad. Also suited for making sauce. These thin pods dry brilliantly and would really suit themselves to drying and making powder or flakes.

* The container sizes above are sugested sizes that are reasonable and accessible for most growers (taking price, space, ecological/environmental impact into consideration). Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers  - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
