Chinese 5 Colour X. This variety is a very interesting hybrid variety that has popped up among our "Chinese 5 Colour" plants. A great grower with a very nice bushy plant structure. Dark stems with dark foliage and eye catching purple flowers. Flowers grow into beautiful purple cone shaped pods that are facing heaven. On closer insection one can see faint - what appears to be - tiger stripes in the pod colour. As pods ripen, they transition through the 5 different typical Chinese 5 Colour colours, being purple, cream, yellow, orange and finally red. What sets this hybrid apart is the dark purple/black tiger stripe markings, giving these pods a totally unique and awesome appearance.
This variety is a hybrid between a Chinese 5 Colour and an unknown Annuum (we suspect). These seeds are F2, so will be unstable and variations must be anticipated when buying this variety. Future plants will carry traits of these hybrid characteristics, those of a Chinese 5 Colour and a third unknown variety. If you are a chilli grower who enjoys unique plants and enjoys surprises, this may well be something for you to grow. What lies in future generation we can not say - but it could be something even more awesome.
These pods are a little buttery when fully ripe. Fruity and peppery up front with a very long sharp peppery burn. Definitely a very useful chilli in the kitchen to add spice to dishes. Can be used for salsas, sauces as well as making chilli powder. But more than this, we think the looks of this plant is simply rockstar status. We fell in love with this plant and if your plant turns out anything like this, we are certain you will too :)
