Chi Chien
Chi Chien Chilli Seeds. The Chi Chien (C. Annuum) is a well known Chinese heirloom chilli. This chilli grows well and can be expected to reach a height of around 100cm. A typical annuum style plant structure to this variety with a tendancy to grow vertical and not bushy. This plant - in our experience - will definitely benefit from "Topping" to encourage these plants to broaden out. White flowers give way to green Cayenne type pods that grow facing heaven in a rather attractive and unusual cluster of pods (much like the "Poinsettia Chilli aka Hot Claw Chilli"). We also note that "The Rooster Spur Chilli" has an uncanny resenblence to this chilli. Whether or not these are all one and the same variety, we can not confirm - but there certainly is a very simillar resemblance in all of these. The green pods eventually ripen to a bright red and this chilli has major easthetic appeal when laden with these bright red clusters of pods. Besides the aesthetic appeal of this chilli, it is also a very versatile chilli in the kitchen. Used extensively in chinese cuisine, these chillies are super fresh or dried and make a very attractive red chilli powder. These chillies are hot and will add instant heat to dishes. A fresh, clean flavour to these chillies with a peppery heat. A geat variety to grow in the chilli patch - espacially if you like Asian cooking.

* The container sizes above are sugested sizes that are reasonable and accessible for most growers (taking price, space, ecological/environmental impact into consideration). Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
