Brazilian Starfish Red Chilli Seeds

Brazilian Starfish Red chilli seeds. The Brazilian Starfish Red (C. Baccatum) is one of those unusual looking chillies. A consistent grower, this plant reaches around 120cm in height. Depending on growing conditions this may obviously vary. Our plants structure was quite wispy and sparse. An attractive plant, but what seems to stand out immediately is that this plant is a visibly sparser plant with fewer leaves and more of a wispy structure to the plant. Pods are about 5cm in diameter and have this undulated exterior with this very characteristic undulated fringe that runs around the outer edge of the pods that makes these pods look like little starfish of sorts. Hence the name. Pods ripen from green to red once fully ripened. These pods really do look very unusual and for this reason are tick all the right boxes as an ornamental. But these unusual pods are not just ornamental - they are mighty fine to eat too. Double surprise! These are somewhere in the ball park of Cherry Bomb / Ecuadorian Sweet. They are fruity and sweet smelling when cut open and have a wonderful sweet and fruity flavour. Pods are crisp and juicy when you bite into them. The burn on these is definitely front of the mouth. A pleasant lingering burn to these that lasts a good 5 - 8 mins. Heat on these is not staggering and can vary around Jalapenño level of heat and slightly up. Maybe in the ball park of a Serrano. So mild in our books, but very pleasant. This chilli would be really awesome in salsa, could be dried to make a lovely sweet paprika or made into sauce or a paste. Definitely a versatile chilli and one where the imagination will find an amazing use :)
