Black Pearl (Secluded) Chilli Seeds
Black Pearl Secluded Chilli Seeds. The Black Pearl (C. Annuum) is an all time classic. We love these little gems. This chilli is unique and unusual in our books. If you are a first time grower, this variety is a must. It is virtually impossible to fail with this chilli as they germinate and grow easily. The Black Pearl is also tolerant of cooler temperatures and will do well come early spring. Plants are small to medium in size, which makes them very suitable for both garden and container growing. This variety will grow compact and bushy with striking black to green foliage. Flowers appear in clusters and are an eye catching brilliant purple. Amazing to behold! These develop into clusters of black, pearl shaped pods around the size of large blueberries. These clusters of black pods eventually change to crimson when ready for picking.
The fruit can be used fresh, dried - as flakes or powder. Pods have a medium thickness skin and are very seedy inside. This is rather off putting for most chilli enthusiasts and as such, this variety has always been considered more aesthetic and decorative than culinary. We do beg to differ though, as dried pods make a very aromatic and tasty chilli powder or chilli flakes.
The aroma of the pods is herbaceous with a hint of paprika. The flavor is peppery with a touch of citrus. A slight saltiness to the flavor which seemed quite unusual. The burn from these pods is characteristically peppery, with a pleasant well rounded burn to the roof of the mouth, top of the tongue and slightly at the back of the throat. The burn lasts a good 7 - 10 minutes, fading very gradually. Heat, we estimate at a comfortable 30,000 - 50,000 SHU.

* The container sizes above are sugested sizes that are reasonable and accessible for most growers (taking price, space, ecological/environmental impact into consideration). Not everyone can look at growing in huge containers. If you can justify growing in larger containers - there are no limitations on container sizes. You may however, rather look at growing in soil as an option in these instances. Using large amounts of potting medium will come with ecological/environmental impact, which you may wish to take into consideration.
