Shishito chilli seeds. The Shishito (C. Annuum) are a Japanese heirloom variety. The Shishito gets its name from the lobes at the tip of the chillies that resemble a Lion's "Shishi" head/flaring nostrils & mouth - "to" derived from "Togarashi", meaning chilli... hence "Shishi-to". These chillies germinate and grow well with a leaning toward cooler summer temperatures. This plant is a medium to large sized plant that produces well through the season. Pods will generally set early season and produce throughout the season. While pods to ripen from green to red, these chillies are eaten when green. And we would highly recommend this. This chilli is very similar to the Spanish Padron chilli and we would highly recommend charring these chillies on a griddle and serving them with a drizzling of oil and a sprinkling of seas salt - delicious! Flavour is very earthy and herbaceous. Heat wise, these chillies are not very hot, although one in 8 pods or so can be spicier than the norm - which does add a fun element to eating these. Really a fantastic chilli to grow and eat!
