Quadrato D'Asti Rosso pepper seeds. The Quadrato D'Asti Rosso (C. Annuum) is an Italian heirloom pepper variety from the village of Asti in the Piedmont region of Northwestern Italy. Plants grow well to about 50 - 60cm in height. Plant structure is very much characteristically Annuum. These peppers produce early in the season producing large green peppers that have three to four lobes at the base and can grow to about 15cm x 15cm in size. They are vaguely square in shape - hence their name "Quadrato". Pods mature from green to a magnificent red colour once fully ripe. Peppers are thick skinned, fleshy and very aromatic and sweet. Plants will require supporting/staking due to the large size of the pods. These pods do enjoy a long hot season and will not tolerate cooler temperatures. Unripened end of season pods will go mushy while green and drop off the plant if temperatures are too low. So an early start to the season is recommended. Pods can be used for cooking either red or green (as is the case for most peppers) and is well suited to stuffing and using in risotto or paella dishes, where these add a rich and delicious flavour.
